More Lois is always a plus, Blue did great work with Zod and you could really feel Freeman start to get comfy with Tess as a wild card. However, there are quite a few fun episodes and it's nice to feel Souders/Peterson really break free and start to do their own thing. SEASON 9 - hot take, I know! However, the re-watchability of this season isn't great for me and the season kind of runs out of steam in the second half. STANDOUT EPISODES: Pilot, X-Ray, Hourglass, Zero, TempestĨ. In the grand scheme of things, however, we don't really start to get into the meat of what this show could do until season 2. The characters are all very strong and the world of Smallville is fun, though. SEASON 1 - yes, this started everything, and the nostalgia is strong! But the "Freak of the Week" and high school storylines are all very 00s WB and there's not too much to hold onto arc-wise. STANDOUT EPISODES: Descent, Fracture, Traveler, Wrath, Geminiĩ. I've always felt Al/Miles could have finished the show very strongly with season 7 if they'd wanted to, especially if they'd done one thing very differently at the end of season 6 (will get into this more later), but this season will always feel like the season of missed opportunity to me. Kara as a character isn't utilized properly, and the Traveler and Luthor arcs just kind of meander to their conclusions. There are a lot of really good individual episodes, but after the lukewarm ending to the Lex/Lana arc from season 6, the entire story itself just kind of stalls and the characters are all in this weird standstill. SEASON 7 - this is the only season where you can really feel Al/Miles spinning their wheels and not capitalizing on the show's potential.
